Bank Clerk, some time also known as Clerk cum Cashier, is that employee of the banking organisation who is apt to take care of the day to day financial transactions of the banking and other finanaical organisations.
Although not an authoritative post yet it has its own importance in the banking system. It is a highly sought after career among the average students because of the good work culture and other facilities like home loan at low rate, lesser working hours, relatively good salary then those who are working in non-financial organisations.
But all these extra facilities are not a bonus to these professionals, in return they have to be extra responsible than their counterparts in other organizations as these professionals have to deal with the liquidity, so they have to be extra vigilant with their work otherwise they may have to pay for their mistakes themselves. Being a public dealing post, one has to be on its toes at all the working hours as he/she has to satisfy the clients not only with its accuracy but also with the speed of the work to be done.
Thus to become a bank Clerk one has to be really dedicated and hardworking. The job of a Clerk-cum-Cashier demands intensive knowledge of every aspect of the work done by him to avoid any kind of mistake. For this one should have the capacity to work hard with commitment and honesty. The job requires a lot of hard work and alertness of mind 


I. Eligibility to be a Clerk-cum-Cashier

1. Educational Qualification 
Minimum educational qualification for Clerical Jobs in Banks varies.Matriculates with 60% marks (usually for public sector banks).  OR Pass in Senior Secondary Examination (10+2) or equivalent recognized examination. With at least 50%  OR Graduation for those who have not secured required % of marks in the previous qualifying exams.
However some multinational financial institution like HDFC, ICICI and SBI etc. demands first class graduates for the post of Clerk-cum-Cashier in their institutions. 

2. Other eligibility Conditions:
Working knowledge of computer application like word, excel and other basic function is essential for some organizations.

3. Age
Age limit set by most of the institutions lies between 18-27 yrs for the post of Clerk Cum Cashier.

II. How to become a Bank Clerk?

Step 1

Various Banking Service recruitment boards keep on announcing about the Bank Clerk Exam to be taken by them for filling of the post. The aspirant has to enroll themselves for these tests by filling the requisite form along with the demanded document and fee from time to time. 

Step 2

After clearing these written test comprising of (i) Mathematics (ii) Mental Ability(iii) Clerical aptitude and (iv) English one has to go for the personality test/skill test in some organization.

After selection they are supposed to undergo some on job training before finally handling work independently. 

However some private financial institution like ICICI Bank, etc arrange walk in interviews for these post instead of all the above process.

Bank Clerk Career Prospects

For hardworking and dedicated persons there is enough scope to reach the higher echelons of the banking sector besides good financial returns. According to an estimate, with the growing globalization and opening of the world market to one and all, India would need nearly 100000 clerk- cum- cashier by the end of 2010.

Bank Clerk Salary

In a public sector bank one can get as good as Rs. 15,000 to Rs.18,000 where as in a private sector one could get from Rs.20,000 to Rs.25,000 per month along with the other incentives and facilities provided by them.
