A career in banking is one of the most attractive career choices for most youngsters today. Probationary Officer is in the direct contact of their subordinates as well as their prospective customers. They are the one's who have to make a balance between the perfect services provided to their customers as well as the well-being of their employees

Taking efficiency into consideration the Bank Probationary Officers are selected on the basis of a written test which is known as Bank Probationary Officers Exam (Bank PO exam) and an interview conducted by Banking Service Recruitment Board so that most appropriate person for the job could be selected to perform the duty properly. 

After their selection through a rigorous test they are made to undergo two years probation period during which they perform various banking functions such as loans, foreign exchange, saving and current accounts. As a manager, they are made responsible for the functioning of their particular branch. They are the sole in charge of staff welfare, legal matters and profit margins etc.

How?????

I. Elgibility Criteria
1.Educational Qualifications:
a) General Candidates and others - 60% or more marks in class XII and 55% or more marks in Graduation or Post Graduation
SC/ST/PWD Candidates - 55% or more marks in class XII and 50% or more marks in Graduation or Post Graduation
b) Computer Literacy - Proficiency in computer (Certificate from a reputed Institute or having computer as a subject in class XII or Graduation).

2.Age Limit:
Not below 21 years and not above 30 years as on prescribed date. 

NOTE- Relaxation in the Upper Age Limit to Reserve category candidates Upper age is relaxable by
3 years in the case of OBC candidates.
5 years in the case of : i) SC/ST candidates. ii) Ex-servicemen (including Emergency Commissioned Officers/Short Service Commissioned Officers) provided applicants have rendered at least five years continuous Military Service and have been released on completion of assignment (including those whose assignment is due to be completed within one year).
10 years for VH/OH (Gen); 13 years for VH/OH (OBC) and 15 years for VH/OH (SC/ ST) candidates.

II. Process to become a Probationary Officer in Bank
Step 1
Preliminary Examination: Time 2 Hrs. (combined)

Candidates will be called for an objective type examination. The objective type examination will consist of:

Reasoning Ability Test.
Quantitative Aptitude.
General Awareness/Computer Knowledge.
English Language.
Note: Question paper will be in bilingual form i.e. in Hindi and English except the test of English language.

Step 2
Main Test: Time 3 Hrs. (combined)

This will be an Objective and Descriptive type examination. The objective type examination of 2 hours duration will consist of:

Test of Reasoning.
Data Analysis and Interpretation.
Marketing Knowledge.
Test of English Language.
Note:- The Descriptive type examination will be a test of English knowledge - Time 60 Minutes

Step 3
Group Discussion & Interview :

Qualifying candidates will be called for Group Discussion and Interview. They have to secure 40% (35% for SC/ST/PWD) aggregate marks i.e. Group Discussion and Interview put together to be eligible for selection.

STEP 2 and STEP 3 marks will be aggregated and arranged in the descending order for candidates who have qualified in both the tiers and depending on the vacancies, selection will be made from the top merit ranked candidates in each category. Candidates will have to pass both in STEP 2 & STEP 3 for final selection.

III. How to Apply
All applications for the post will be registered online. 
Candidates are required to go to any CBS branch of State Bank of India and pay the amount of fees and get receipt from the branch. The candidates are required to apply online through website - www.statebankofindia.com. 
Probationary Officer Salary
Selected candidates will be on probation for a period of two years. They will draw a starting basic pay of Rs.11,880 In the scale of Rs.10,000-470/6-12820-500/3-14320-560/7-18240 applicable to Officers Junior Management Grade Scale I. 

They will also be eligible for D.A., H.R.A. & C.C.A. as per rules in force from time to time. 
At present, initial monthly emoluments of Probationary Officers, including D.A., H.R.A. and C.C.A., are approximately Rs.16,850/- at Metropolitan centres.
