"Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry (JIPMER) under Government of India since the year 1956, is one of the leading Medical Institutions of India. Spread over a sprawling 195 acre campus in an urban locale of Puducherry (formerly Pondicherry) JIPMER is 170kms. by road from Chennai. JIPMER was declared as an Institution of National Importance by a Parliamentary Act. The Institution is now empowered to award Medical Degrees, Diplomas. Such Degrees / Diploma, etc., shall be deemed to be included in the schedules to the respective Acts governing Medical Council of India, Indian Nursing Council and Dental Council of India, entitling the holders to the same privileges as those attached to the equivalent awards from the recognized Universities of India. JIPMER is committed to provide high quality medical care to all sections of the society, it conducts undergraduate, postgraduate, super speciality and Ph.D. courses in various disciplines to train competent and caring medical professionals and to undertake health and medical research for the ultimate benefit of the society. Admission to all Professional Courses at JIPMER is through an Entrance Examination conducted by JIPMER at various centers in India once a year. In addition certain categories of students are admitted through nominations by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. JIPMER, with 28 academic departments, imparts Undergraduate (UG), Postgraduate (PG) and Super Specialty Medical Training through a working hospital (JIPMER Hospital) with bed strength of 1650 and a Nursing College, B.Sc. Nursing and Medical Lab Technology Courses and PG Degree Courses in 22 disciplines are offered. Super Specialty departments of Cardiology, Neurology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Urology, Plastic Surgery, Neonatology, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Pharmacology and Surgical Gastroenterology also offer D.M./M.Ch. Courses. Full-time Ph.D. Programs are available in eight disciplines as on date.

MBBS

Eligibility
No of seat 127
Students who have completed 10+2 are eligible. The Higher/Senior Secondary examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination which is equivalent to 10+2 Higher/Senior Secondary examination after a period of 12 years study, the last two years of such study comprising Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology (which shall include practical tests in these subjects) or any other elective with English at a level not less than the core course for English as prescribed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training after introduction of the 10+2+3 educational structure as recommended by the National Committee on Education.

Entrance and Admission requirements
Admission is through an entrance examination conducted by JIPMER at various centers once every year.Call for applications will be announced around February every year and all major news papers in India will carry the announcement. Forms availalbe on www.jipmer.edu.in. The written exam would be held in May end; results declared in June second wek and allotment of seats after personal appearance by mid July

B.Sc.

Eligibility
No of seat 75 In B.Sc Nursing,   No of seats 30 in B.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology,  No of seats 4 in B.Sc. Medical Radiotherapy Technology,  Number of seats 4  B.Sc. (Operation Theatre Technology, No of seats 4 B.Sc. Perfusion Technology, No of seats 4 in B.Sc. (Dialysis Technology), Number of seats 4 B.Sc. (Cardiac Laboratory Technology), No. of seats 4    B.Sc. Nuclear Medicine Technology, No. of seats 4 B.Sc. (Cardiac Laboratory Technology) 
The Applicant should be an Indian National (not applicable to nominated candidates). Overseas Citizen of Indian can also apply. (ii) He / She has completed age of 17 years at the time of admission or will complete the age on or before 31st December of the year of his/her admission to the B.Sc. course. The applicants should have passed the qualifying examinations in the manner mentioned below: (a) The Higher / Senior Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination which is equivalent to 10+2 Higher / Senior Secondary Examination after a period of 12 years study, the last two years of such study comprising Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Botany and Zoology (which shall include practical tests in these subjects) and with English at a level not less than the core course for English as prescribed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training after introduction of 10+2+3 or Higher Secondary Examination (+2) Vocational Stream with Medical Laboratory Assistant or any equivalent examination. (b) The applicant must have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Botany & Zoology and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Botany & Zoology at the qualifying examination. For OBC / Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe candidates, the minimum marks in the qualifying examination will be 40%. (c) Obtaining an Eligibility Certificate is required in the case of OCI and for foreign nationals nominated by the Central Government for admission to B.Sc. (MLT) Course. (d) Candidates who are studying / have studied Medical Laboratory Assistant in the Vocational Stream will not be considered for B.Sc. (Nursing) course and vice-versa. (e) The Candidates, who have passed the qualifying examination other than those mentioned in the list appended in Appendix-IV, will have to submit an Eligibility Certificate from the JIPMER before admission is finalized for B.Sc. Courses.

Emergency Medical Technician Course (EMTC)

Eligibility
No of seat 20
The applicant should have completed +2 (science/ Vocational stream with MLT/Nursing) and age should be between 17-25 years on 31st December of the year of application.

Applications are to be downloaded from www.jipmer.edu.in and submited by end August. Merit list is drawn based on marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology or Biology put together. Candidates are selected as per their merit ranking. Followed by counseling.

Rs. 130 one time fee to be paid with caution deposit of Rs. 1000/-; stipend of Rs. 300 p.m will be paid


MD/MS

Eligibility
No of seat 84 in MD and 40 in MS. 
The Applicant should be an Indian National. (ii) He / She must possess MBBS or an equivalent degree recognised by the Medical Council of india; (iii) should have either completed or due to complete one year internship by 31st march of the year of application. Candidates who have already done MS/MS in any subject in any other institution are not eligible for admission.

MSc

Eligibility
No of seat 5 each in Medical Surgical Nursing, Child Health Nursing,  Obstetrics & Gynaecology Nursing,  Community Health Nursing, Mental Health Nursing
The applicant should have passed BSc Nursing degree; should be registered with the State Registration Council of Nursing & Midwifery; should have one year of experience in a hospital or College or in a School of nursing; minimum one year experience prior or after post basic BSc Nursing. Male candidates should have passed any other course recommended by Indian Nursing Council in lieu of mid-wifery. Candidates should be medically fit.
